Roll of Honour
Mrs Marwood, of Kirk Deighton, has had official intimation
that her son, Private John Marwood, was killed in action of
October 6th. He was the only support of his widowed mother, and
before enlisting was employed at the Starbeck Branch of the
Harrogate and District Co-operative Society, prior to that by the
Wetherby Co-operative Society. He had been about two years in the
employ of the Harrogate Society, the directors of which sent the
following letter of condolence to his mother : "I am requested
by the directors of the above society to convey to you and your
family their deepest sympathy with you in the sad loss you are
called upon to bear by the death of your son on the battlefield. We
always found him a very good servant while in our employ".
