Harrogate Herald - 16th January 1918
We recently made inquiries about Driver H M Metcalfe,
whose relatives were not receiving his letters. Writing to us he
says :
I am receiving the Herald from my wife who lives at 13 Craven
Street, every week, also letters, and receive letters sent by mother
and father, but sorry to say that I cannot understand how it is that
they are not receiving my letters. I write home every week. I think
it is with leaving France and being on the move to Italy, where the
post has been delayed. I have been out in France now for over a
year, and I don't think there is much chance of leave yet. I
received the paper this week dated December 19th with my photo in
it, and that is how I found out that they are not receiving my
letters at home. I received a parcel from my mother and sister a few
days ago with some cigs in it. I only wish I could get some more
through the Herald, but I do not care to ask, as there are a lot
asking for them. (We have Driver Metcalfe's address if his
friends have not already heard from him - Ed)
