Harrogate Herald - 20th January 1915
Lieutenant T H Owen, nephew of the Vicar of Christchurch,
Harrogate (the Rev D S Guy), has been killed in action. Major
Reddie, of the 1st South Wales Borderers, to which Lieutenant
Owen was attached, says the deceased officer was leading his men
into the trenches, and was shot in the head when only three or four
yards off them. He was slightly wounded in the neck a short time
before, but gallantly led his men on. A brother subaltern, conveying
the news to Lieutenant Owen's parents, says :"He was
rounding up his men when he got a bullet right through his forehead.
The advance your son died in will never be forgotten. He could not
have died more nobly. The way he led his men was splendid".
