Roll of Honour
The patriotism and loyalty of Mr and Mrs William
Pullan, of Follifoot, have undergone a severe test. They have
four sons with the colours, and two have been wounded and one
invalided home. Mr Pullan is a market gardener and well-known
in the district. Private Herbert Pullan, the eldest son, was
invalided home with trench fever, and is now in hospital at North
Reddish, Stockport. He was a gardener with Mr Campbell, of Harrogate
and Pannal, before enlisting in September. Bombardier William
Pullan, Royal Garrison Artillery, the second son, has been out
three years. He was on the NE Railway before joining up. He has had
some exciting experiences, having been lifted 30 or 30 feet in the
air by explosion, but fortunately so far has escaped injury. Gunner
Arthur C Pullan, Royal Field Artillery, the third son, was
wounded in both legs, particulars of which appeared in a former
issue. He is still in Fordhouse Military Hospital, Devonport. Lance
Corporal Ernest Pullan, West Yorks, is the fourth son, and was
severely wounded on Boxing Day in the right knee and left foot. He
joined up in September, 1914, and assisted his father prior to
enlisting. His officer, writing to the parents said : "You have
my sincere sympathy. I cannot afford to lose my NCOs, and he was my
most competent and trustworthy corporal in charge of the company
Lewis gun.
