Harrogate Herald - 5th December 1917
W H Breare letter
Gunner Newbould, of 20 Cecil Street, was wounded September 5th,
and has been in hospital at Orpington, Kent, and then a VAD
hospital, Abbey Lodge, Chislehurst. He called to see me. With him at
the Front and in the same battery was Bob Riby, who lives at
13 Pine Street, and is married. Gunner H Sutcliffe, killed last
February, was with is lot and the first man in his battery killed.
My visitor was an assistant at Farrah's before enlisting. Newbould
was slightly wounded before, but did not leave the battery. He was
to go to report to a command depot on Monday. A brother of his,
Sapper A Newbould, Royal Engineers, was wounded November 10th by
shell, and has been in hospital at Newcastle. Another brother, H
Newbould, is in the trenches. His brother-in-law, Private L W
Kendall, of the West Yorks, was killed September 20th; he was
married and lived at Killinghall.
