Harrogate Herald - 27th January 1915
Dear Sir, I have found time at last to write to you.
At the time of writing I am enjoying a few days in billet. I am sure
I was very glad to receive your presents and newspaper, as it cheers
us up out here to know how things are going on at home. We are
having quite a lot of wet weather out here in the trenches. We are
up to the knees in mud and water, and have often to sleep in a
couple of inches of water, which is not so pleasant. But we are
sticking it as well as possible. I would be pleased if you could
send me another paper out. I will now conclude with best wishes to
all for a bright and prosperous New Year.
Yours truly, Private J Smithies.
