Harrogate Herald - 10th January 1917
Letters
Driver J G Smithson writes a cheery letter, in which he
says :
Dear Mr Breare, I should like to thank you again for kindly
sending me out the Harrogate Herald so regularly. I occasionally
miss a week but then look forward to the next, and I can tell you I
appreciate it very much when I do get it, as it is nice to read the
local news and all news generally round about. I feel sorry when I
see so many photos of the lads who have fallen, but we know that
they have all done their duty. I cannot tell you much about here. I
am not at the same place as I was when I last wrote you, but we keep
jogging along, and look forward to the time when we shall be back
again, after this account with Fritz is settled. It is rather warm
here through the day yet, but I haven't seen any rain since last
February, so I don't think you will be able to say that at home.
Will now close, again thanking you for kindly sending me out the
Herald, and wishing you every success and a bright and happy New
Year.
