Harrogate Herald - 3rd March 1915

We regret to record the death of Captain Gilbert Thompson, of the Connaught Rangers, who was killed in France on February 24th, and whose name appeared in the list of casualties published on Monday. A memorial service was held in London on that day, and was attended by the members of the family.

Captain Thompson was the second of three sons serving at the Front of Mr Reginald Thompson, of Loftus Hill, Knaresborough, and grandson of the late Sir Matthew William Thompson. He was born in 1873, and joined the Connaught Rangers in 1899. he served eight years in India, and at the time of his death was Adjutant to the Kensington Battalion of the London Regiment. He married the second daughter of Mr D'Arcy Wyvill, of Constable Burton and Denton Park, Yorkshire, and leaves one son and two daughters.

Captain Thompson paid frequent visits to Loftus Hill, and was well known in the district, where the news of his death has been received with keen regret.
