Harrogate Herald - 18th July 1917
W H Breare letter
2nd AM Tong, Royal Flying Corps, is a son of Mr and Mrs
Tong, Oatlands Mount, Harrogate. He looked in on me on Monday
whilst on week-end leave. Unfortunately he has been ill since he
arrived and has not recovered. Dr Hinsley Walker found that
he would not be fit to return for two or three days. Before the war Tong
was employed by Mr Atkinson, cycle dealer, Station Parade.
Hartley, of Grove Park Walk or Avenue, joined with him. The latter
was driver for the Road Car Company. Both went up in February. The
Tong boys present a splendid record. The first son, Harry Tong,
is in the Royal Engineers; the second, Fred Tong, was twelve
years in the Royal Navy, and has been home once in the last four
years; the third, Percy Tong, joined the Naval Air Service,
but has since been discharged. The fourth, Stanley Tong, was
six years in the Navy, discharged on account of health, and died at
home. My visitor is the fifth son.
