Promotion for Harrogate Man
Second Lieutenant Leonard F Veal, who joined the 1/5th
West Yorks after the outbreak of war, as a matter of fact, in
September, 1914., as a private, and was billeted at the Beechwood,
where the 2/5th were, has earned his commission. He went to France,
and was in some stiff fighting. He was sent home to train for his
commission, after the advance on the Somme last July. He came to a
Scottish camp, and very soon was appointed cadet adjutant. Before
joining the colours he was with Messrs Maxwell Grayson, wine
merchants, of James Street.
