The Rev J R Walker, who has since 1909 been
pastor of the Harrogate Baptist Church, has, as reported by us
previously, been appointed a chaplain to the forces under the Free
Churches United Board, and left Harrogate in the early part of this
week for the Dardanelles. His farewell services at the Baptist
Church on Sunday were very well attended, especially the evening
service, and the number who will feel his departure as a great
personal loss is considerable. It will, however, be generally
recognised that in his new sphere, administering to the needs f the
best of Britain's manhood, Mr Walker will be quite happy. The
young people of the Baptist Church have found him ever ready to help
and encourage them in the cultivation of high ideals and work for
good causes. His manly Christianity is the admiration of all who
know him, and we have no doubt that the boys at the Dardanelles will
have reason to love and respect Mr Walker before he has been
very long in their midst.
[Then follows an extract from his monthly letter to his
congregation]
