Harrogate Herald - 29th December 1915
The committee of Knaresborough ladies who organised
a Xmas gift fund for sending parcels to local soldiers and sailors
with the expeditionary forces and on the high seas have been deeply
gratified and richly rewarded with a shoal of appreciative letters
received by Miss J M Alexander (hon. secretary) from the boys on
service for King and country. We have pleasure in inserting the
first batch, and others will be given in subsequent issues :
December 15th - Dear Miss Alexander, I am very glad indeed to
acknowledge the receipt of the excellent Christmas-box which has
been sent to me by the Knaresborough Soldiers' and Sailors' Comforts
Committee. It has reached me in perfect condition, and the good
things contained in it have been greatly enjoyed and highly praised
by all the boys with me. I should like to express my heartiest
thanks for and appreciation of both the gifts and the sentiment of
Christmas kindness and goodwill which the gift conveys. Very
sincerely, William Windsor.
