Harrogate Herald - 29th December 1915
W H Breare letter
Mr A Crabtree, of 28 Otley Road, came on Thursday to say that he
would be glad to send a parcel out to some soldier who needed
comforts. I recommended Private Winn to him. Early the next
morning I received a letter from Winn saying that he had been sent
home to hospital. I immediately telegraphed to Mr Crabtree the
information, and was in time to prevent the parcel being sent to a
wrong address. I received a reply, therefore, that Mr Crabtree not
having despatched it at so short a notice would withhold it until it
was required either by Winn or elsewhere. Winn is suffering
from an unpronounceable complaint, which, put intelligibly to all,
is poisoned legs. I presume the cause is wet and slush of the
trenches.
