The Story of a Hospital
By Wilfrid Edgecombe, M.D., F.R.C.P., F.R.C.S.
The history of the Harrogate and District General
Hospital
The site adopted
As previously recorded, the Knaresborough Road site for the new
hospital was finally adopted in 1925. Its purchase at £7.000 was
rendered unnecessary by the munificence of the president Capt C S
Greenwood, who offered it, in 1927, to the hospital as a free gift.
The property Avenue Cottage, adjoining and belonging to the
hospital, was sold for £407. In this year is noted the first
appointment of a lady almoner to the hospital in the person of Miss
Siddons, who did invaluable and much needed work.
