Cost of medical services

Prior to the takeover in 1948 the consultant medical and surgical services were on a voluntary basis, with the exception of the relatively small amount granted during the years 1945-48 from the medical staff fund. The resident house officers were, of course, paid. For the years 1955-56 and 1956-57 the figures are as follows:

  1955-56 1956-57
Consultants, senior hospital medical officers and registrars £31,936 £36,370
House officers £3,900 £3,748
Dental £164 £186
  £35,990 £40,302
