Foreword by
H.R.H. The Princess Royal
It gives me great pleasure, as patron of the hospital, to comply
with the request that I should write a brief foreword to this little
history.
It is now thirty-two years since I was invited by the then Board
of Management to become your patron, and throughout this long period
I have always taken a lively interest in the development and welfare
of the hospital, visiting it on many occasions and keeping in touch
with its activities.
Reviewing the past history it is a matter for congratulation and
commendation to the pioneers of those early days on their faith,
foresight, wisdom and energy in building up a modern self-contained,
efficient hospital from the humble beginning of a tiny cottage
hospital. Further progress is contemplated in the integration of the
Harrogate General with Scotton Banks Hospital, thereby raising the
status of the former from that of a medium sized hospital to the
rank of one of the major hospitals in the region.
I wish all concerned with the administration every success in
their endeavour to enlarge and improve the facilities for treatment
available to all patients under the National Health Service.
