CHAPEL of SAINT RAPHAEL |
This little
chapel, east of the chapel of the Holy Spirit was where the Blessed
Sacrament was perpetually reserved before the Lady Chapel was built.
The aumbry is now used to house the Holy Oils for use in the
Sacrament of Holy Unction.
The portable Altar was the private Altar of the Rev. Ernest
Mitchell, a priest in the Newcastle Diocese, and was given by his
family to the church after his death.
The double window, in memory of Hugh Waldemur Carroll, of Newcastle,
showing St Victor and St Joan of Arc, was put in soon after the
1914-18 war. It recalls the alliance of Italy and France in the
union of their patron Saints. It is one of the earliest windows of
St Joan.
